Dear Readers,

In the life of a musician, teachers play one of the most important roles. At every stage of development, a teacher is there with you, helping you become the best musician that you can be. Teachers can be encouraging, supportive, and sometimes frustrating- But in the end, they help guide us and point us in the direction that we were unable to go on our own.

As a student, I often wondered when the time would come that I would no longer need a teacher. It seemed that there was always so much to learn, there was always another level to reach for. Since I left school, I’ve found two things: First, a good teacher prepares you in such a way that you never stop learning- You keep discovering new things, taking more challenges, and finding ways to improve yourself. Second, your most important teachers never really leave you- they’re always in the background, their words of wisdom echoing though your head and encouraging you as you face those challenges.

It is in this spirit that this issue is dedicated to teachers and the influence that they have on their students. I hope you enjoy what we have put together, and if there is something you’d like to add, please share your thoughts- we would love to hear from you.

Happy Learning,
Andrew Dickenson
