This issue of NYlon Review marks the end of one year and the beginning of another, a cusp that proves to be both relieving and invigorating. The past year has been a very exhilarating one for NYCCGS- we have instigated many events and activities with the hopes of making the guitar scene in New York stronger and healthier. We’ve made a lot of progress, made a few mistakes, and learned some lessons, but above all it’s been fun and exciting to watch the guitar community come together, flourish, and prosper.

None of this would have been possible without the support of many generous people and organizations. Thanks to D’Addario, we were able to host the Pro Arte Guitar Series- four outstanding concerts of high-quality performances: The Amadeus Guitar Duo, David Leisner and Fred Hand, A Tribute to Jorge Morel, and Dennis Koster. We also had funding from La Bella Strings to host a Conservatory Concert, which provided a great performance opportunity for three up and coming students from New York’s conservatory scene. In addition, we had the charitable support of many other organizations in New York and beyond: Hostelling International, Luthier Music, The Guitar Salon, Rawdon Hall Strings, Collins Guitars, Robert D. Polansky and Michael Lawrence Films. None of this would have been possible without their kind contributions. We’ve also had a very fine advisory board to go to for advice, and they have offered their wisdom and assistance with much generosity.

Our most important thanks, however, goes to our members. In the last year, we’ve seen our membership grow from just a handful to well over a hundred. It’s very exciting, because this is the reason we do all this- to see the guitar community come together, have fun and become enriched.

We have big plans for next year, too, and I hope we’ll continue to have your support as we grow. Thanks again for everyone’s contributions, and I look forward to seeing you around the city!

Sincerely,
J. Andrew Dickenson
