Peter Fletcher

Peter Fletcher & DavidMichael Schuster at Carnegie Hall

This concert will feature the New York premier of The Divan of Moses-ibn-Ezra, a song cycle written in 1966 by Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. The cycle, written in English, is translated from the works of 12th century Spanish poet/philosopher/rabbi, Moses-ibn-Ezra. Divided into five sections, the music leads the listener on the poet’s journey through songs of wandering, friendship, country life, the evils of the world, and eventually to the grave. The composer’s daughter-in-law Lisbeth and granddaughter Diana Castelnuovo-Tedesco have both expressed full-blown support for the concert.

The duo will also be performing a commission of Brazilian composer Clarice Assad, whose works have been performed by some of the world’s top artists, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Other repertoire will include Schubert, Bach, Michael Praetorius, and Federico Mompou.

The concert is being presented by Amocanti, a non-profit organization aimed at making accessible the joys of classical vocal music to today’s schoolchildren.

Wrote JAZZ Times: “[Assad is] a fine classical and jazz pianist, composer, and jazz-infused pop stylist.”

Stated The New York Times: “[DavidMichael Schuster] shows a tenor voice not only unusually rich and full in the lower register, but unforced and brilliant in the upper register as well.”

Proclaimed Peter Burwasser of Fanfare Magazine: “Fletcher plays it all with a gracious virtuosity that makes for a very pleasing hour plus of unaffected musical poetry.”
