Event Calendar January 26, 2012 Indie-Classical Guitars Music for 1, 2, 3 and 4 guitars, featuring Andrew McKenna Lee, Threefifty Duo, Twi the Humble Feather, and Dither A genre-defying lineup of accomplished NY-based contemporary guitarists assembles at LPR, with a program combining Andrew McKenna Lee in a performance of Steve Reich’s seminal Electric Counterpoint (dubbed “magnificent” by Reich himself), the infectious and driving patterns of Threefifty Duo, the hypnotic textures and indie-inflected vocals of Twi the Humble Feather, and the coloristic pyrotechnics of Dither. "The fretwork of guitarist Andrew McKenna Lee is nothing short of remarkable... Discover an altered sense of the passage of time with this remarkably introspective album." Time Out Chicago “Brilliant! ... each track is an attention-grabbing item and throughout there are no low-points. The style is difficult to describe: performing on classical guitars and steel-stringed guitar, Circles is an amalgamation of classical/rock/folk; sometimes romantic, sometimes thrillingly energetic, but at all times spell-binding. Loved every second of it and will play it time and again.” (Threefifty Duo) Classical Guitar Magazine (UK) Thursday, January 26 @ Le Poisson Rouge For inquiries contact: Artist Bios: Threefifty Duo has been described as "a classical guitar duo with a rock edge," as guitarists Brett Parnell and Geremy Schulick seamlessly weave their contemporary rock sensibilities into the rich fabric of classical guitar. After years of writing and performing together and with a second album under Threefifty’s belt, the duo’s stylistic tendencies have further expanded, with genre blurred by an intensely personal sound that is rhythmic, infectious, engaging, and at once both new and accessible. Formed in the halls of The Yale School of Music, taught by renowned classical guitarist Benjamin Verdery, and molded by the multi-faceted music scene of their hometown New York City, Threefifty Duo has gone on to play in a diverse array of venues and festivals, from concert halls to rock clubs. Highlights include SXSW, The 92nd Street Y, The New York Guitar Festival, Southpaw, Pianos, Wittenberg University, Sarajevo's Dom Armije, and Connecticut Guitar Society. In the fall of 2010 Threefifty Duo set off for a three-week tour of the UK, where they played as part of CMEAS' Fall UK Tour and the Lancaster Music Festival. Recent projects have also included a collaboration with video artist Jennifer Stock, who will be accompanying Threefifty Duo’s set for this concert, “transform[ing] nearly recognizable figures into dancing geometrical patterns and ghostly apparitions.” (NY times) www.threefiftyduo.com www.soundbookone.com From dreams, nature, film, and architecture to music both ancient and contemporary, Twi the Humble Feather compose under a spectrum of influences. Cousins and close friends since childhood, Anthony Lebron and Hector Fontanez partner in depicting the adventures of Twi, a mythical interstellar traveler. In this musical dialogue, their focus remains to create a timeless sound for a multi-generational audience. Dither, a New York based electric guitar quartet, is dedicated to an eclectic mix of experimental repertoire which spans composed music, improvisation, and electronic manipulation. With sounds ranging from clean pop textures to heavily processed noise, from tight rhythmic unity to cacophonous sound mass, all of Dither’s music wholeheartedly embraces the beautiful, engulfing, and often gloriously loud sound of electric guitars. The quartet’s members are Taylor Levine, David Linaburg, Joshua Lopes, and James Moore. | ||||||
