The Caedmon Music School presents:
John Johns, classical guitarist, in recital
Saturday March 6th at 7:30 pm.
Caedmon Hall, 416 E. 80th Street, (between 1st & York).
Admission is $15 for adults; children less than 15 years free with an adult.
“First rate performer” (the New York Times), classical guitarist John Johns will perform at the Caedmon Music School Saturday, March 6th ad 7:30 pm. Mr. Johns’ program will feature works his own transcriptions of music by Bach, Mendelsohn, Gluck and Diabelli. In addition he will play guitar classics by Villa-Lobos, Sor, Falla and Granados
At his New York debut at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, The New York Times praised John Johns as a “first-rate performer with sure fingers and a firm technique…a sensitive instrumentalist.” The Guitar Review described him as “an unforgettable guitarist!” The Nashville Tennessean called him “a superb musician” and “a classical guitar wizard” while England’s Classical Guitar said that he was “always musical and often poetic.” He performed to critical acclaim on National Public Radio’s “Concert Guitar” which featured some of the world’s leading guitarists, among them Manuel Barrueco, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, Leo Brouwer, Sharon Isbin, and Oscar Ghiglia. His recording, “Johns Johns Plays Bach, Bennett, Brouwer and Others,” has received international acclaim by leading guitar periodicals and journals. He made his Paris debut performing a concert for the American Ambassador to the Office of Economic Cooperation and Development and invited guests and dignitaries from the French, American, and Canadian governments John Johns holds degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Music where he was a scholarship student of Aaron Shearer, and from George Peabody College. He is Chair of the Guitar Department at the Blair School of Music of Vanderbilt University.
The Caedmon Music School is a community music school within The Caedmon Elementary School. Piano, guitar, violin, flute and voice lessons are offered to students of all ages and backgrounds in a friendly neighborhood setting.
