NYCCGS Members Meeting: Arc Duo and Shafer Mahoney

Thursday, January 3, 2008, at 7:00 pm

Manhattan Theatre Club Creative Center, Studio 3 (on the 8th Floor)
311 West 43rd St. between Eighth and Ninth Avenues (see map)
New York City

Arc Duo (Bradely Colten, guitar, and Heather Holden, flute) is ensemble-in-residence at the Diller-Quaile School of Music in New York City. Dedicated to music of the 20th and 21st centuries, in 2004 Arc Duo launched their "commissioning project." Since then, the Duo has consistently introduced virtuosic new repertoire for flute and guitar. They have debuted works by David Leisner, Shafer Mahoney, and others, and are slated to debut new pieces by Roland Dyens and David Schober soon. They recently released a wonderful debut CD.

Shafer Mahoney's music has been performed around the world and at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Merkin Hall. Critics have described his music as "tonal and imaginative" and "dazzling." Mr. Mahoney is on the faculties of Hunter College and The Juilliard School.

Arc Duo and Shafer Mahoney will be on hand at the January 3 meeting to discuss new music, commissioning, collaboration between performers and composers and any other audience-generated topics. The Duo will perform Mr. Mahoney's new work for flute and guitar, Shining River (2007), at the meeting.
